Five Pizza Creations That Are Total Game Changers

It’s time to ditch the plain, cookie-cutter toppings and take it to the next level.

Forget ordering a plain or pepperoni slice. Pizzerias across the country are ditching the standard toppings and are getting creative. From a pizza-topped pizza to a whole lobster on a pie, there are no boundaries to creating total game changers.

The most creative we’ve seen so far is Tony Boloney’s Taco Pizza in Hoboken, N.J., and people from all over the world are flocking over to New Jersey to give it a try it. What started off as an item on the secret menu has now gone viral. Owner Mike Hauke tops this pizza with 24 tacos, guacamole, homemade Oaxaca cheese, pickled jalapeno crema and esquites. Aside from their taco pizza, their main menu is very unorthodox, with Mexican, Italian, Jewish, Indian (and more) inspired items.

Here are five other creative pizzas we’ve seen:

1. S’mores
When we think of dessert pizza, a Nutella pie usually comes to mind. Dough Girl’s Pizza in Lake Balboa, California, steps it up a notch with a s'mores pizza that includes Hershey’s chocolate, marshmallows and graham cracker crumbles. It’s the perfect dessert that will remind you of campfires and summer nights.

2. Shakshuka
This famous Middle Eastern dish has found its way onto a pizza. Talula’s in Asbury Park, New Jersey, uses spiced tomato sauce, two farm eggs, feta and parsley, creating a healthy and fresh vegetarian-friendly pizza.

3. Salad
If you can’t decide between salad or pizza, why not get both? With Caesar salad, a creamy Caesar dressing, grilled chicken and parmesan cheese, this pie from Boardwalk Pizza in Fairfield, N.J. makes you feel a little less guilty for having a cheat meal.

4. Mac and Cheese
Look no further for savory, cheesy goodness. Vinnie’s Pizzeria in Brooklyn tosses up elbow macaroni, bacon, sharp cheddar, mozzarella and sour cream in their “Mac Attack” pie. The big question: Would you eat this with a fork and knife?

5. Spinach Artichoke
If you have not already heard of Artichoke Basille’s Pizza in New York City, you may want to give it a try. One of the country’s most favorable dips in pizza form is made for all of your dreams to come true. Artichoke Basille’s uses artichoke hearts, spinach, cream sauce, mozzarella and pecorino romano cheese. Although Artichoke Basille is most notable for this signature pizza, many pizzerias are picking up on this trend and are creating their own recipe to serve to their guests.

While popular toppings like pepperoni, sausage and mushroom are important for many pizzerias to offer, try taking it to the next level with the five pizza creations mentioned above.
